SNP direction contrasts with UK's dismal drift
The direction and vision shown by the wide ranging legislative programme unveiled today by the SNP Government is in stark contrast to the navel-gazing at the heart of the UK Government demonstrated by David Cameron’s botched reshuffle.
The legislative programme announced for the Scottish Government today will see 15 bills introduced to the Scottish Parliament, including a flagship bill to enable the coming referendum on an independent Scotland.
Other key pieces of legislation include bills to provide 600 hours of childcare for three and four year olds and looked after two year olds; greater support for victims of crime; and the introduction of a legal framework for sustainable public procurement.
This extensive legislative programme contrasts with a chaotic UK Government reshuffle characterised by dithering and indecision.
SNP MSP Kenneth Gibson – who spoke in today’s debate – said:
“The contrast in Scotland between the SNP Government and the Coalition Government could not be greater.
“In Edinburgh, the SNP has shown its ambition for Scotland with a wide-ranging Programme for Government – a package of measures to build economic recovery, to deliver the best package of childcare in the UK, and to improve support for the victims of crime.
“Meanwhile David Cameron has spent the day mishandling a reshuffle desperately intended to breathe some life into his stagnant Government.
“The more chaotic the UK Government becomes the clearer it is that the powers needed to grow the economy, to protect pensions and to deliver a stable and effective welfare system should be transferred to the Scottish Parliament. Today’s programme for government clearly shows that where the Scottish Parliament and Government have the power to act we will act in Scotland’s best interests.
“The SNP Government’s direction and vision stand in stark contrast to the dismal drift of the UK Government and that has only been reaffirmed by today’s comprehensive programme for Government.”
