SNP conference hails support for A9 improvements
Support for the Scottish Government’s decision to accelerate the timetable for completing the dualling of the A9 between Perth and Inverness has been welcomed by an SNP MP.
Pete Wishart, MP for Perth and North Perthshire, hailed the £3 billion programme of work that will see the seven remaining single carriageway sections start two years ahead of schedule in 2015.
Mr Wishart said:
“Every year too many lives are tragically lost on the road, with 67 fatalities on the A9 between 2006 and 2010.
“However, the SNP’s investment in dualling the A9 along with other safety improvements will go some way to addressing this issue.
“The SNP Government has since 2007 invested £50 million in upgrading substantial stretches of the road which will provide real economic benefit to Inverness, Perth and communities along its 113 mile stretch.
“The SNP are committed to improving infrastructure which will help business and allow Scotland to drive forwards as a nation. The progress of the A9 is testament to that progress.”
