SNP and Labour to form coalition in East Ren
The SNP group in East Renfrewshire have this evening reached an agreement with the Labour group to form a coalition administration to run the council.
The agreement will build on the last five years of informal coalition, where the two groups have had a positive working relationship.
Commenting, SNP Group Leader Tony Buchanan said:
“I am delighted that Labour and the SNP are set to form a progressive coalition in East Renfrewshire.
“Our two manifestos had much in common and we are both keen to see our key policies implemented for the good of East Renfrewshire.
“The agreement builds on the last 5 years of working together informally. The two parties worked together to deliver two new schools, a health centre in Barrhead along with major regeneration projects, Scotland's first Renaissance Town in Neilston, a business improvement district in Clarkston and of course provide the best Education services in Scotland.
“We will work to deliver a new health centre for the Eastwood area of the authority and build on recent commitments to create our own town centre regeneration fund, improve our roads and work with a range of organisations to tackle the scourge of youth unemployment, as well as providing additional spaces in our graduate internship programme.
“The SNP group are looking forward to the challenges ahead and we will work hard with our Labour colleagues to give the people of East Renfrewshire the progressive council that they deserve.”
