Edinburgh's library service deemed best in UK
Edinburgh has been deemed the best city in the UK for its library services.
The Bookseller Industry Awards named Edinburgh City Libraries and Information Service as Library of the Year.
SNP MSP for Edinburgh Central Marco Biagi welcomed the news and said this was the third national libraries award won by the city’s library service in two years.
Mr Biagi said:
“This city has a fantastic reputation for its libraries service which has been recognised internationally.
“It is testament to the staff who work hard to ensure they deliver the highest-quality service.
“This particular award praised Edinburgh’s libraries for the visionary approach taken to delivering its facilities.
“It is fantastic for the service to be given this accolade – and adds to the other two received in the last two years.
“In this digital age it is important to recognise the vital role libraries play in our communities and awards like these acknowledge they can never be replaced.
“Our city’s libraries are something to be proud of and are a fantastic asset for this country.”
