Poll shows support for Scotland's renewables

Commenting on a Panelbase poll which reveals that 52% of Scots back the SNP’s plans for 100% of Scotland’s energy to come from renewables and only one in five believe there are too many wind farms, SNP MSP Rob Gibson said:

"What this shows quite clearly is that people in Scotland are fully committed to grasping the opportunities that renewable energy offers us.

"It means jobs, it means investment and it will of course help to reduce Scotland’s carbon emissions.

"The SNP has a clear vision of the kind of Scotland we want to build, and our bold target of generating the equivalent of 100% of electricity demand from renewables is an important part of that.

"This poll makes clear that people across Scotland share our vision, which is perhaps not surprising in light of the recent opinion poll putting support for the SNP at a fantastic 47%.

"The Scottish Government offer stability of support for developers - unlike Westminster - which backs up Scotland’s ambitious but achievable green energy targets which are already delivering jobs and investment to the people of Scotland.

"The Scottish Government agrees that we must protect National Parks and other areas valued for their beauty. That's local authorities are asked to identify areas requiring significant protection in their development plans.

"Our record of leadership on this issue is a clear demonstration of the kind of things that can be achieved when decisions are made in Scotland, by people 100% elected by people in Scotland."
