SNP become Scotland's largest party

The SNP's end of year membership figures show the party has continued to increase its members in 2010 Membership of the Scottish National Party has increased by 4 per cent over the year and a massive 71% over the last seven years.

At 31 December 2010 the SNP had 16,232 members (9,450 at 31 December 2003).

SNP Business Convener Bruce Crawford commented:

"With over 16,000 members, the SNP is now the largest party in
Scotland and is increasingly the natural choice of those wanting to
build a better Scotland.

"Over the last seven years our membership has increased by a massive 71%.

"The year on year rises are a clear recognition of the success of the
SNP in government, with a strong team of ministers working hard to
make our nation smarter, fairer and wealthier.

"As we head into the 2011 elections, we are confident that voters
recognise the importance of ensuring Scotland has an experienced
government to take us forward.

"We are hopeful of continued membership growth up to and beyond next year’s Holyrood elections as we invite people across the country to be part of better."
