SNP raise over £100,000 in under one week
The Scottish National Party today [Saturday] announced that in the first 6 days of the party's fundraising efforts 2,414 small donations of less than £500 had been received taking the party past £100,000.00 as part of the ‘Double your Donation’ appeal.
Last Sunday (13th) Scottish entrepreneur Brian Souter pledged to match every penny donated by March 30th up to a total of £500,000, doubling the value of donations and putting the party on course to raise £1 million for this year’s election.
So far over 2400 supporters and members have donated through the internet, by text or by phone of between £1 and £500 with an average donation of £42.
Commenting, Bruce Crawford MSP and the SNP’s Business Convener said:
“We have seen an absolutely fantastic response to our ‘Double your Donation appeal’ and we’re well on target to meeting the goal of £500,000 by the end of March. Across the country Scots, many of whom who have never donated to a political party before are putting their hands in their pockets and donating to protect the progress the SNP has made over the last four years.
“The number of individual donations is overwhelming with 2,414 donating over the last 6 days. People are donating everything from £1 to £500 and every penny is being put to use in the campaign to re-elect an SNP Government and Alex Salmond as First Minister. With £100,000 raised so far, a fifth of the money Brian Souter has pledged to match, we are doing well but we can do more.
“With the continued support and continued hard work of those who have donated, or who are thinking of donating today the SNP will be able to reach out on the doorstep, in the media and across the country as we put our record in government, our team of ministers, MSPs and candidates and our vision for the future to the test.
“Managing to break the £100,000 barrier in under one week is a tremendous boost to everyone wishing to protect our progress and the achievements of the SNP in Government such as freezing the council tax, delivering 1,000 more police officers, driving forward Scotland's renewable energy industry, making healthcare better, faster and cleaner, supporting a record 25,000 apprenticeships next year, and restoring free education. We want to continue to build on that progress and work towards a better Scotland, a Scotland we can all be proud of."
