SNP welcome investment backing

The SNP today welcomed comments from leading Scottish businessman John McGlynn who backed the Scottish Government’s infrastructure plan and the “strong team that is running Scotland”.

In today’s Daily Record Mr McGlynn, founder of Airlink, backed Infrastructure Secretary Alex Neil’s plans for generating investment in Scotland saying:

“There is interest in doing things in Scotland. People like the country and they have done their research on Alex Neil and the First Minister and they like what they see…….I’m not actually sure the idea of a government infrastructure fund has ever been done anywhere before. It is an innovative idea and I can see no way why it would not catch on."

Discussing the Scottish Government he added “What is important is ‘Is it the right man or woman for the job’ When I see how Alex Neil’s thinking is progressing it tells me he is part of a very strong team that is running Scotland.”

SNP MSP and Infrastructure Committee member Jamie Hepburn said: “The support of prominent business people like John McGlynn who are able to promote Scotland to their global colleagues, attract interest in the country and who support the strong and competent team of Scottish Government ministers is a welcome boost.

“Unlike the naysayers in Labour business across Scotland recognises the importance of infrastructure investment for jobs, business and economic growth and the SNP’s determination to deliver this investment.

“Alex Neil has already had success in innovative ways of financing construction projects through the National Housing Trust and the Scottish Futures Trust and the SNP is determined to maintain as much investment as possible in our economy in the face of UK Government cuts.

“John McGlynn is a well respected and successful businessman and his support is another indicator that around the world people recognise that Scotland is a fantastic place to do business.”
