SNP MSPs welcome roads commitment
Welcoming reports Scottish ministers will confirm plans for dualling the A96 and the A9, SNP MSP for Aberdeenshire West, Dennis Robertson, and SNP MSP for Highlands & Islands, John Finnie, said this was another example of the SNP’s dedication to improving transport links across the country.
Commenting Mr Robertson said:
“The SNP is committed to improving transport links between all cities in Scotland so the announcement from Mr Neil saying all cities will be linked by 2030 is extremely welcomed.
“Improving the A96, along with the A9, are both major wins for the North of Scotland and highlight the dedication of the SNP to strengthening transport links between cities across the country.
“I look forward to seeing what improvements on the A96 Scottish ministers will set out in the Infrastructure Investment Plan.
“Dualling the A96 would add to the good work already taken to improve roads in the North of Scotland, including the work well underway on the £31.5 million Fochabers Bypass scheme.
“This will significantly improve journey times between Inverness and Aberdeen.
“These announcements will not only improve transport links but will also provide a major boost to Scotland’s economy.”
Mr Finnie said:
“Progress has already been made on the A9 so to complete the dualling now would be a huge investment and major commitment to the economy of the north of Scotland.
“The SNP is the only party with a commitment to dualling the A9, with £50 million already spent and action taken on key areas like the Ballinluig junction and dualling the road at Crubenmore.
“I’m looking forward to hearing the plan in detail this week as far too long people travelling on this road have had to face a higher risk of accidents.”
